TALE is a targeted business support programme focused on improving efficiency and productivity in logistics and supply chain operations for SMEs across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent and East Sussex.
The TALE programme is designed to demonstrate how, through data analytic tools and techniques, business can gain insights to improve their competitiveness through a reduction of costs, introduction of new services, enhancement of customer service and acquisition of new customers, as well as ensuring businesses are protected from risks of cyber-attacks.
For the freight transport, logistics and manufacturing sectors
TALE supports the freight transport and logistics sector, such as freight forwarders, hauliers, customs clearance agents as well as companies with a logistics function in the manufacturing, engineering and distribution sectors. The programme will work with 200 SMEs such as delivery companies, food wholesalers, maintenance operations, manufacturers, commercial fleet operators and anybody moving goods from A to B.

TALE Grants are set at 40% of your total Project budget, with your company funding the other 60%.
Your project can include elements of capital, revenue, software and consultancy costs.
The scheme has been very successful and there is only just over £400,000 remaining in the grant pot - so be quick!
There are currently 2 types of Grant:
TALE Lite £1k - £2k
To purchase software and initial consultancy advice related to data, with fast turnaround and simplified applications for projects up to a maximum budget of £5,000.
Example how funding could be utilised
TALE Grants £2k - £10k
To support software, consultancy or the purchase of equipment directly linked to embedding new data analytic tools and techniques into the company. For larger awards, your data project will lead to new product or service being launched.
Timescale
Payments are made upon receipt of evidence of expenditure – your project need to take place during 2020. TALE ends in Spring 2021.
What can my business gain?
TALE funds projects that use data analytics as part of a logistics function. The more effective use of data within the company can be wide ranging:
Companies can buy kit for data collection and processing such as computers, iPads, telephony and data capture devices such as sensors.
Software applications could include tracking systems, warehouse management, stock control, security protection tools and market intelligence.
Personnel can include the use of consultancy, advice and help to implement a data use solution, and the recruitment of new staff employed within the business to launch a new product or service:
Support & Advice
Business Support Facilitators will guide the grant application process and can answer any questions on eligibility including acceptable items of expenditure within your data use project.
All Grants are funded by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and this EU budget is guaranteed regardless of Brexit as it has been drawn down by the UK Government.
** IMPORTANT You will not receive grant funding for any costs incurred PRIOR to grant approval. TALE cannot release funds retrospectively for activities that have already occurred **
